TIHAR - A Five Days Long Festival

Tihar, also known as "Dipawali" and "Diwali" in Terai area, is being famous with the name called "Light Festival" because of maximum lights of oil-lamps, candles, colorful decorative electric light etc. It is a five-day long festival which occur just after the "Dashain", a biggest Hindu festival. Highlighted attraction of this festival is all about worshiping of the Hindu goddess of fortune or wealth whereas there are several stories followed by the festival. It is also the festival of Brother and Sister where sister pray for her brother's long-life. This festival brings loads of excitement and fun for all members of family from children to seniors. 

People lit diyas inside and outside the houses to make it illuminate at night.  They also shows reverance to the animals which maintain intense relationship with the humans.  Along with different rituality people make patterns on the floor which symbolize sacred welcomeness for the deities. This five days of festival is full of different pattern covering many verities of celebration and enjoyment. 




21st October in 2014 is the first day of Tihar and is consider as a "Crow Day" called "Kag Tihar" in Nepali. Likewise, second day is "Dog Day", Third day is "Wealth Day" and people also worship cow that day as cow is consider as goddess "Laxmi" - goddess of wealth, forth day is "Oxen Day" and people also worship sacred mountain called Gobardhan Parbat & finally fifth day is "Brother's Day" when sister worship their brother for a long-life.
